Abuse and Neglect of a Blog
I really need to update more often. I'm sorry for neglecting you. Anyways, Spain was fantastic, this fall has been brutal school-wise, I'm living with Dane, I think I might take a fifth year in school, and yesterday I drank and played cards with family for Thanksgiving and it was a wonderful time.

God Hates Straight People
Let me tell all of you about this story.

Meet Ed, Jeremy, and John. Three friends of mine from high school. Great guys.
On June 17th 2006, the four of us went to a Jazz festival in Indianapolis. Some cool bands were playing. Unfortunately when we got there, the best people on Earth happened to be lurking outside the gates to the jazz fest.

These people.
There were about 6 or seven of them, loudspeakers and all. A crude message of hate disguised by a seeming belief in Jesus Christ. But whatever, it's their right to say whatever they want. As a corollary, it is also MY right to say whatever I want to! So, the guys and I left the park to get some lunch, and on the way back, I said to John, I have a pretty good idea. Knowing me, John said something to the likes of Chuck, what the hell are you up to now? I told the guys what I was about to do, so we went to Walgreens and bought some posterboard and a Sharpie. After we got back to the site with the hate-spewing idiots there, I had some things to say.

God hates straight people.
I started shouting out too... it was a fun time. At first, the loudspeaker guy didn't attack me. he said "He is right! God hates us! All of us!" But after a while they called me a faggot devil and such things.
Lots of people were laughing pretty hard once I got into the gates of the festival. The rest of the festival was a lot of fun. Bonnie Raitt can actually sling a guitar real well.
Okay, I'll stop here.

This summer. I GOT IT.
So, the spring semester was in full swing, and I hadn't found anything math-related to do for the summer. Afraid to work at the likes of a fast-food place this summer, I started upping my searches. Again, nothing. I found a lot of engineering internship work, but nothing in my interest range.
Every Wednesday, the Latino Cultural Center at Purdue offers free lunch offered from random Latino-based groups, catered, home-cooked, whatever. The places that cater often don't charge very much, because it gives free publicity. But anyway.
I was talking in there to a guy about how I couldn't find anything to do this summer, at which time a guy I know, Juan Ramirez, told me that he was a grad student in mathematics and that his professor was looking for undergraduate research assistants, and that if I applied for it, I'd probably get the job.
This is a pdf of the same thing last year, when the professor was teaching at UMich.
http://www.math.purdue.edu/~mleok/pdf/poster.pdf
So I thought that was very interesting (and some good money too), and talked to the guy. Dr. Leok suggested that I also attend a week-long summer lecture series about topics I would be researching. He would be there to talk about his research.
So I thought that was pretty interesting, yeah? But here is the best part:
"So Dr. Leok, where is this conference located?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, it's in Spain."
(Here)

SPAIN!? WHAT!? Oh, how exciting this is! He gave me a brochure and told me to visit the website.
Oh, yeah, I got it... :)

Exciting...

Mean Girls
Janis: That one there, that's Kyle Gatlin. He is one of the dumbest boys you will ever meet. Damien sat next to him in English last year.
Damian: He asked me how to spell orange.
[Cady snickers]
Janis: That little one, that's Nick Guenther.
Damian: He's totally rich because his dad invented Toaster Streudels.
Janis: Nick Guenther knows everybody's business, he knows everything about everyone.
Damian: That's why his penis is so big, it's full of secrets.
Janis: And evil takes a human form in Emily Rothenberger. Don't be fooled because she may seem like your typical selfish, back-stabbing slut faced ho-bag, but in reality, she's so much more than that.
Damian: She's the queen bee - the star, those other two are just her little workers.

My Semester (recap 1)
I can't write remotely well at all anymore.
Some new friends at Purdue:
Julio Morera - What a crazy kid, what a big heart, what a caring individual. I'm defnitely looking forward to getting to know him better.
Dane DeSutter - Never in my life have I been friends with someone like Dane. So arrogant! Haha. So devilishly funny. We could be talking about the most immoral things - think the Holocaust's extermination of gypsies. I am the devil and he is a gypsy... Oh yeah, I'm living with him and a friend of his next year. Pretty cool.
SPS and all them - Sarah Svendsen, a friend of mine from IU , said that physics majors are some of the most genuinely nice people of all of her campus. Well, the SPS (society of physics students) may or may not match that. Everyone seems to peacefully coexist. Everyone is a hardcore nerd and I love it. Totally unafraid to be whomever it is they are. And they are pretty nice, I must admit. But as with any moderately small group, there is in-group drama.
I'm an idiot.
Hmm, what else. Academically this semester didn't go well at all. I had to realize that I had to motivate myself. The scholarship is gone, so there's really nothing except myself, no 3.5, no nothing. It's harder than I thought it would be. And I took Katie's breakup WAY too hard. Oh well. So in this semester I:
1. realized that I take relationships and love much too seriously (well, I dunno, I guess this will be part of another blog),
2. got a future dream job (math teacher at a small college),
3. found out I like math more than physics, and have decided to pursue a math career, and
4. missed my family like no other.
So, in a silly blog, there is my semester. Kinda. I'll write more maybe

"My Blogger" is a shitty name
I have been thinking a lot about what it means today to be a man in society. Do I belong? Do I need to?
Meet two friends of mine.

On the left is Lindsay, on the right is Steve. Recently celebrated four years of a relationship. Awesome.
Earlier today I called Lindsay asking if she had some plans, she had nothing, so I went over her house and watched a few episodes of Arrested Development (which is hilarious, by the way). Steve came over and I was immediately the third wheel. Which I really don't quite mind (it's been a joke that Lindsay is the one third-wheeling the relationship.
Partially in attempt to weird me out, partially to continue with the joke that is it Lindsay and not I who is third-wheeling, he started putting his arms around me like he would Lindsay. But the thing is I actually enjoyed that. I felt comfortable, relaxed in his arms. For those brief moments, it was as if nothing in the world was outside of that room.
After a short while, Steve felt awkward and let go. To rub it in more, I did the same to him, to which he promptly let go and held onto Lindsay as the two of them looked back at me, jokingly.
What is going on here now? It is not like I have a sexual attraction to Steve. I reckon I just am the kind of person who just gets a lot out of actual physical contact with someone. Even small things. Trust me, they don't go unnoticed, nor are they unappreciated. Hugging someone is great. Cuddling and/or sleeping with another person is wonderful.
My question is why is physical contact perceived as pertaining to homosexuality? Are my emotions understandable? Do men typically feel this way?
I'm leaving this published for now. It'll be expanded upon later.
